WELCOME TO THE BC AMBROSIA APPLES NEWSLETTER  – April 2015

Thank You!

Our ‘I Like My Ambrosia With…‘ Contest is now closed. It was a big success thanks to you. We were thrilled to see all of the creative ways (and places) you enjoy Ambrosia apples. If you haven’t had a chance to peruse the other entries, we suggest you take a look. You never know what Ambrosia inspirations you might find.

And the Winner Is…

Drum roll, please. We are thrilled to announce that the winner of our ‘I Like My Ambrosia With…’ Contest is Alanna Single from Winnipeg. Her creative picture of the word Ambrosia spelled out in cut-up Ambrosia apples captured the judges’ attention, as did her poem. Alanna has won a three-night stay at the Summerland Waterfront Resort, a $100 worth of spa services from Beyond Wrapture, $100 meal at Local Lounge & Grill and a VIP tour at the Okanagan Crush Pad plus $500 spending money. Congratulations and enjoy your weekend, Alanna!

We also want to congratulate our runners up, Denise McCrea of Calgary and Gale Simpson of Winnipeg for their amazing entries. Nice work.

Start the Day Right

How you start the morning can really set the pace for the whole day. That’s why we were so excited to get Nutritional Researcher and Author, Brad King’s recipe for his Ambrosia Apple Smoothie. In this video, he explains the various health benefits of including Ambrosia apples in your breakfast blend. He also walks us through his own morning smoothie recipe. It’s simple, delicious and packed with nutrition, making it the perfect start to a great day.

Socially Speaking

We like our Ambrosia with friends, which is why we love to slice one up and checkout what’s happening on social media. Here are a few of our favourite posts. On Twitter, @ladnerfrida said: My baked Ambrosia apples are great with crepes. And, @LotsOfTreats tweeted: Ambrosia apples taste amazing great!!!! I might be using these for my cobbler.

Over on Instagram, the Vancouver restaurant CorkandFinOyster posted a mouth-watering photo of their latest dish, adding: Just dropped this on the menu – Torched Arctic Char x Young Arugula and Radish x Ambrosia Apples x Horseradish Aioli.

With all these scrumptious ideas, you can see why we bring our own Ambrosia to social media time. Why don’t you grab one and join us on

 Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

From Bare to Buds to Blossoms

It’s an exciting time in the orchards. The growers have completed most of their winter pruning and are now watching spring bring on exciting changes (and a little earlier this year than usual). The Ambrosia apple trees have gone from being bare to having little green buds in the past month. Further South, the trees are already popping with apple blossoms. The scene changes every day in the orchard at this time of year. It’s pretty thrilling to see a new season take shape right before your eyes.

Last Call

While the promise of blossoms has us excited for new apples, we are reminded that last year’s supply of Ambrosia is starting to come to an end. We don’t want to start a panic, but the stocks are getting low. You don’t want to miss out. We suggest grabbing the last of the season the next time you’re shopping. You never really know when it’s going to be last call.
