How to Create an Ambrosia Apple Wrap Bar

A Perfect Way to Keep Busy Families Fueled

Ambrosia apples wrapFamily life can get pretty busy and keeping everyone fed (healthily) can be a challenge. Weekends can be especially hard. If you’ve got one of those families where everyone is coming and going during the day, and there is precious little time to make sure everyone has a healthy lunch, then this idea is for you.

Set up a build-your-own wrap station in the kitchen!

All you have to do is make sure that you have some kind of wrap like a tortilla, pita, or even large lettuce leaves, and all of the fixings.

The great thing about this is that preparation happens once, in the morning, and everyone can make their own (according to their tastes). They can just make, grab and go whenever their schedule allows.

Why do we call it an Ambrosia apple wrap bar? Because Ambrosia apples are the star ingredient in ours!

Here are a few ideas of things you might include in your selection of toppings.

Ambrosia Apples

The great thing about Ambrosia apples is that Ambrosia compared to other apples are slower to brown once cut. If you slice them and store them in a sealed plastic container in the fridge, they’ll be fresh all the way through the lunch period. No need to put lemon juice on them, they stay fresh naturally.

For the wraps, we like to either slice them or make Ambrosia apple matchsticks.

Peanut Butter

This is a classic combination with Ambrosia apples and provides a little bit of protein, and lots of healthy fats to keep your team going.

Other Nut Butters

Peanut isn’t the only game in town! You can use any nut or seed butter to add protein and healthy fats. We love cashew butter and almond butter with Ambrosia apples but some of the combination nut and seed butters are great too.

Granola or Toasted Oats

A sprinkle of crunchy granola or some toasted oats can add a really interesting flavour to the wrap. Plus, they’re full of fibre and protein and are great for sustaining energy.

Cheese Slices

Ambrosia apples go really well with cheese. Smoked and sharp cheddar are two of our favourites but there are so many others. Pick one that most of your family likes to ensure the slices get used up. Feeling fancy? You could try brie, gouda, or even blue cheese.

Greens

It’s always good to add greens. Include something like shredded kale, spinach, arugula, or any kind of lettuce.

Bell Pepper Slices

Red, yellow and orange peppers cut into thin strips taste excellent with Ambrosia apples. They provide a really surprising bite each time. And, the two together make the wrap satisfyingly crunchy.

Hummus

If you’ve followed our blog at all, you know we are big fans of pairing Ambrosia apples with hummus. The flavours just work so well together.

Chicken or Turkey

This is a great way to get rid of your leftover chicken or turkey meat. Simply shred it up and add it to the wrap bar. Both of these meats pair really well with Ambrosia apples.

Bacon

Cooked bacon is absolutely beautiful with Ambrosia apples. The saltiness of the pork is set off by Amborisa’s sweet flavour. And, you might be surprised how well it goes with a few of these other wrap bar fixings. Ham slices are another option with a similar palatability.

Dark Chocolate Chips

Okay, these may not fit in with the healthy theme but they are fun. And, if adding a few sprinkles of chocolate makes your Ambrosia apple wrap bar a resounding success, we say let them indulge just a little. And, you too.

You’ll be amazed at how happy everyone is when they can easily make their own lunch, on their own time.

We’ve shared some tried and true options. You can come up with your own, go all out and add them all, or just pick a few from this list.

Someone may even try to put everything into one wrap which could be a big mess. Or, it might be the greatest culinary discover of all time. That’s the joy of the Ambrosia apple wrap bar – you get to be creative with your food.
