  • 6-8 medium-sized Ambrosia apples 
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: A squeeze of lemon juice to enhance flavour and prevent browning


  1. Selecting the Ambrosia Apples:

   Choose fresh, firm apples. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples before slicing.

  1. Preparation:   Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C)—line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Slicing the Ambrosia Apples:

   Use a sharp knife or a mandolin slicer to create uniform slices, approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. If you have an apple corer, remove the cores before slicing for a more even drying process.

  1. Spiced Sugar Mixture:

   In a bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to create a spiced sugar mixture.

  1. Coating the Apple Slices:

   Lay the apple slices flat and coat each slice evenly with the spiced sugar mixture.

  1. Arranging on Baking Sheets:

   Place the coated Ambrosia apple slices on the prepared baking sheets in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap. This allows for proper air circulation during the drying process.

  1. Cooling and Storing:
